My African Drumming Adventures!

African Drumming

Music has always come naturally to me. I have been drumming with African drums since I was 10 years old. The set of drums I play are called Djun Djuns, and they usually come in a set of three drums (Djun, Songba, and Kenkene). They were originally played by themselves, until the creation of the djembe, which together creates the djembe orchestra. I have the pleasure of being on the team of Manga African Dance Inc., an African cultural dance and drum company that happens to be ran by my mother, Dr. Ramatu Afegbua-Sabbatt. Together the company gets contracted to perform at events all over the state of Georgia and even the world. It was through this company that I have been able to expand my musical knowledge, and have learned how to play drums I've never heard of. Being apart of this indigenous African culture brings tremendous joy, and sometimes even a paycheck!
